Ask about report format — when interviewing a home inspector, ask what type of report they provide
Look for detail — a report that only indicates "Good," "Fair," or "Poor" without explanation is vague and easily misinterpreted
Expect descriptive information — a good report should describe the condition of the site and home in detail
Look for recommendations — narrative reports without repair recommendations can be difficult to act on
Accompany the inspector — if possible, be present for the entire inspection
